jacaranda seed propagation

Question
Two years ago I went to San Diego and brought back a jacaranda seed pod. Last year I opened it and kept the seeds in a zip-lock bag. Then 4-5 days ago I planted the seeds in jiffy peat pots which I placed in a lit fish tank/terrarium. I keep it lit 24/7 so they stay warm. I planted veggies and morning glories as well. The morning glories are up about 3" now. What are my chances of any jacaranda seeds germinating?

Answer
Hi Ruth,
Thanx for your question.  I grew some jacaranda from seed and it germinated easily.  It is a member of the legume family.  I kept seeds for several years and they seemed to be viable for at least 3 or 4 years.  They should germinate in 5-10 days if lightly covered with soil and kept damp but not soggy and keep them warm.  I hope this helps.
Tom
