Datura

Question
I have transplanted a Datura.  From the research I have done, I understand that it is not an angel's rumpet because it blooms upward. Anyway, this is apparantly an annual in most places because the winters are too cold for it to survive.  However, the place that I transplanted it fom is near my home (far NE Kansas) and I know it was always kept outdoors.  Is it possible that it reseeded itself all these years?  It is a very big plant!  Any advice on how I could protect my plant outdoors this winter would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Nikki

Answer
Ok I have several of these in my yard as well.  They self seed very easily.  I first planted one in my yard 5 years ago.  They did not show up the following year but ever since I have countless amounts of them popping up all over.  Don't worry about protecting it.  It will die in the cold of winter.  But good news if you have one you will have many in the same spot next year.  You can dig up the little starts and put them in different places when they are big enough in the spring.

I live just outside of KC MO.

I hope this helped you.

Happy Growing
Kristina
