aloe plant turning yellow/brown

Question
QUESTION: I've had an aloe plant that was thriving for years.  Recently, I transplanted it into
a larger pot.  It started to turn yellow/brown within days.  I started to do
research and realized that I should not have watered it- so, as to advise from
others, un-potted it and let the roots dry out.  The roots are still white and
healthy.  There is no rot.  But, the leaves are still a yellowish brown and seem to
be getting 'deflated'/dry.  Is there hope for my plant?  will it turn green again?

ANSWER: Hi Sally, ok, Aloe is indeed a drought resistant plant, requiring very little water, and it sounds like you may have shocked it with too much; now if the roots are dry again, put it in a light potting soil (no humus!) and be patient, the leaves that are already afflicted will not rebound, its the new growth that you want to watch, it should be healthy, I'll be crossing my fingers for you...good luck Sally,,,,regards Nick

QUESTION: thanks nick.  I've got a couple more questions-- 1.  How long after I re-pot it
should I wait, before watering it?  2. It has been an indoor plant and was moved
outdoors after re-potting-  should i bring it back inside?  3. If the yellow leaves
aren't going to rebound- what should I do with them?  The entire plant is a
yellowish brown on the top, but still green on the underside.  thanks again for
all your help!!!

Answer
prune away the dead leaves and don't water it (that will just worsen the problem), moving it outside from a climate controlled environment to the heat could also have shocked it, you need to keep it shaded, they don't really like direct afternoon sun until they are adapted. Right now all you can do is as I directed and then play the waiting game, and hopefully it is not too far gone; people give up to quickly on plants when they are declining, patience is a virtue...good luck Sally:)...nick
