adonidia pest in miami

Question
something is eating the center stalk only of my Adonidia palms at night.  It is not a bird it seems something else I havent been able to see them just hear them jumping into neighbors yard.  Help before I lose them all

Answer
Hi Henry, I don't know what type of creature this could be, but I know that when I was having trouble losing my papayas to fruit rats, i devised a makeshift system to keep them from getting up the stalk to the top; take a standard plastic milk gallon jug, and cut it to fit around the trunk of your palm and wire it tight, then apply some grease to the plastic, this will prevent them from being able to climb the palm to get at the crown, it worked with my papayas, they just kept slipping when trying to climb.
