red leafed plant

Question

red leaf plant
this plant was shrouded and out of sight in an overgrown yard. i'd like to know what it is and how to care for it.

thank you.

Answer
Hi Bob, its a Cordyline Termanalis, better known as either Red Sister or Pink Sister.....or "Hawaiian Ti Plant"; this particular specimen is pretty sad looking however, normally they are full and have a nice spread of leaves.Move it out into an area where it will get morning sun and afternoon shade and  give it a dose of Miracle-Grow, and it should perk up for you. Water it when it begins to dry out, otherwise it is a pretty easy plant to care for and will reward you with years of beutiful color; if it gets to leggy, just cut the top off and stick it in the ground next to the original (which will send out a new crown from the cut point...) plant and it will root itself.
