Pecan tree germination and planting

Question
I have germinated several pecans using peat moss in a single pot, which are about 6-8 inches tall now.  Is it safe to separate these trees now and put them in individual containers and let them grow a little more or should I go ahead and put them in the ground?

Answer
Yes they can be moved to individual pots but be real careful when you dig them out of the peat moss that you do not break the root systems. Plants this young have very tender roots and will need all they have. I would put them into pots now with good potting soil and wait until they are 2 to 3 feet tall until you plant them out in the ground. And do this tramsplanting to the ground in the dorment season early winter after leaf fall or early spring before bud break.
