Wrong insecticide?

Question
Jim,hi just sprayed my plum tree for caterpillars.Only after I'd finished I realised that plums wern't one of the fruits reccomended to be sprayed by this product. It's called Bug Gun and contains bifenthrin have I done harm or has washing it off been a good idea? Thanks.

Answer
It is not a problem. Insecticide labels list the pest and/or the plant they can be sprayed on. Sometimes not all the plants are listed.  Bifenthrin is an insecticide that will control leaf feeding caterpillars on a wide variety of plants. As long as you do not see any burning on the new leaves from the spray there is nothing to worry about. Different manufacturers of sprays especially ready to use sprays like Bug Gun list the plants that they think will sells the product. There are other labels for bifenthrin that list plum.
