Application of Merit 75WP

Question
Jim - On Aug. 10, you suggested I use Merit for the weeping cherry problem (peeling bark and sap ooze). I have had to send off for this  insecticide. My question is: Do I apply this in injection holes around the base of the tree (8 inch diameter trunk)? Having read the label on line, there is no mention of spraying. Am I correct in thinking that I mix about 8 teaspoons in water (How much water?), make holes a few inches deep (6-12 inches from base) and just pour in the solution?
Thank you
Richard Johnson (Baltimore County, Maryland)

Answer
I would not apply as an injection since the wound is already there and the tree will absorb the insecticide. Use 5-8 teaspoons per 5 gal of water. On smaller trees you can use it as  a soil drench and mix it to pour around the tree and let the roots pick the insecticide up and transport it to the trunk. I would spray the wound area and then use the soil drench. Sometimes labels are confusing. I hope this helps.
