Live Oak, Central Florida

Question
Hi Jim,, i live in a 4 year old home, we had chosen a live oak just off the side of our home about 8 feet from house, by driveway, it is the side where our utilities are as well, now i am feeling concerned that it is too close to house , as its only 4 years old its not that big yet, its about 15 high but I am afraid it now only will rise far above house when mature, also  the roots might affect my foundation and utilities,, how can I determine if I should Cut it down or not, is their a local guy I can have come to tell me? my utility company, or a tree service? my home is a single story block home.  Also if I keep it trimmed to the current height will that stunt the trees growth below? Its a wonderfuly shaped tree, but as I said I am concerned.

Answer
This will take someone on the ground to look at the tree and the site to answer all your questions. I would suggest that you contact the Fla. Division of Forestry  and ask one of their Forester to come take a look and advise you what to do. This is a free service.
here is their web contact page or you should be able to find their number in the local phone book.
