Live Oak Tree care

Question
I planted a Live Oak tree I planted 1 year ago it is about 9 ft. tall. It has only one main stem about 4 ft. is where the first branches and leaves are. Should I prune this tree next year in winter? How do you prune a Live Oak? I live in SE Texas. Thanks

Answer
No do not prune it. Let it grow and the branches will start. Oaks have the habit of when first planted putting much of their grow energy into growing a root system. Once they have a established root system they will grow the foliage. Sounds like the tree is ok and growing as it should. One main trunk is good. Just give it time it is still a very young tree for a live oak.
