Flowering Plum -

Question
QUESTION: I would like to know the name of a flowering plum that grows no higher than 10 feet, has deep wine leaves and grows in my area (Clackamas, Oregon).  I had one in Seattle and I believe the flowers were pink when they bloomed.  Unfortunately I do not know the name of the one I had.  Can you help me?

ANSWER: Sounds like Prunus cerasifera 'Krauter Vesuvius'
(Flowering Plum, Purple-Leaf Plum)

Here is a web link to information on this tree.

QUESTION: It sounds like what I had as far as color and flowers, but the tree (which my dad gave me and planted,) only grew 10 feet tall and not any taller and we had it in our yard for 20 years and it never grew over 10 feet.
It was so attractive and pretty and we did not have to prune it ever. Can you uncover any that are 10 feet.  Several years ago I asked a florist (who is no longer in business) and she found the name, but I didn't write it down and now am so sorry I didn't.  Your help is most appreciated.

Answer
There may be a dwarf version I would check with a tree nursery and ask them if they have or can get a dwarf cherry that has purple or wine colored leaves.

One of the web links I found for this tree said 15-20 feet tall at maturity. A 20 year old tree is still considered young so this still maybe the tree. Maturity would be 50+ years.
