Webs and worms in weeping cherry tree

Question
Our wheeping cherry tree has developed webs with little worms inside of them which are killing the leaves what can i do?

Answer
These are web worms --caterpillar type insects in webs. They live in the web for protection from birds and come out to feed on the foliage late afternoon or evening. These can be sprayed with an insecticide called Orthene. You must make sure the spray gets into the web and on the foliage around the web. The result should be fairly quick--should see dead caterpillars the next day.
