weeping cherry tree problem

Question
I have a weeping cherry tree that I planted about 5 years ago.  I have had great success with it except for this year.  This year half of the tree bloomed and now has leaves and the other half has buds but did not bloom nor has leaves.  The buds have been there for about 2 weeks but nothing has bloomed yet  what could be the problem?

Answer
Check and see if the tree is still alive--start near the end of an upper branch and scrape a small bit of bark off the branch and if the color under the bark is green the branch is still alive. If the color is brown not green the branch is dead at this point on the Brach. If not green continue down the branch scraping at intervals until you find green of reach the trunk. Try other branches if no green is found the tree is dead. Since there are a few leaves you could just wait and see if the tree does leaf out. I would expect that you may have some leafing out but most of the limbs will be dead. After it leafs out you can prune the dead parts off.
