Tree with no leaves

Question
I have a tree that has to be close to 60 or 70 feet tall.  I don't really know what kind of tree it is but it is surrounded by a number of other trees however, this tree has no leaves on it.  There are no low branches that I can touch or look at to determine if the tree is dead or not.  I'm concerned that if it is dead that it could fall onto my house or a neighbors house.  How can I tell if it is dead or not?  Do I need to call a professional or is there something I can do?

Answer
This time of the year if a large tree has not leaves on it it is dead. The small twigs should start to fall off. There is not really anything that can be done except remove it. Since it is surrounded by other trees to chance that it will fall all at once is slight. More then likely it will start to break down from the top and break of at the top. Either way I would suggest you remove it. Sorry!
