Replanting fruit trees that already have fruit

Question
Hi,
I have 6 citrus trees and 1 apple tree in pots and I want to replant them in the ground. All of the trees are currently loaded with fruit. Will replanting them now make them drop the fruit? When would be the best time(for the plant) to replant them. 1 tangelo, 2 meyer lemon, 2 ruby red grapefruit 1 pink lady apple tree and 1 unknown variety(took a grafting class, thought grafting failed until it started growing fruit). All are in 5 gallon or 1 gallon pots and I live in the desert part of Southern California(near palm spings)
Thank you for your time.
Kelly

Answer
Yes replanting them more than likely will cause them to drop their fruit due to the stress of planting. Also the summer months are the worst times to plant a tree because of the dry hot weather.  Fall and spring are the best times to plant. I would wait until the weather cools a little and is less dry.

Dig the hole twice the size of the pot or containers and as deep. Fill with good top soil or potting soil and mulch around the tree with not more than 3 inches deep of organic mulch not piled up on the trunks. Plant so that the top of the soil in the pot is the same as the top of the ground.
