Redwood tree root danger

Question
Our redwood tree has expanded over 40 years and now has utility lines, gas, electric and phone growing under or near the roots.  I imagine 40 years ago noone gave thought to the fact that when utilities were put in, that the tree would grow so big in diameter.  The foundations of our house and a neighbor's are close, about 10' away also and some concrete is lifted up now. It must be 70'-90' tall.
Where shall I begin to address this?
can you help advise?I am really worried that a root may break a gas line or other problems. Thank you for looking at my situation.

Answer
I am sorry there is just not enough information to give a good answer. A picture might help but it really would take an on the ground visit to look at and answer this problem. I would start by calling the State Forestry agency and asking one on their Foresters to take a look--most have what is called an Urban Forester who specializes in city tree problems OR check with your city and see if they have a Forester on staff that might help. Or hire a certified Arborist to assist you. Make sure they are certified. Here is the web link to certified Arborist. http://www.isa-arbor.com/faca/findArborist.aspx
