Me and a friend found a root that has been cut and its coverd in a strange yellow gunk. we also seen another root with the same stuff but orange what is this and is it dangerous?

This is sap from the tree. Especially during the Spring when the sap from tree is is moving up from the roots to the branches, IF a root is cut it will leak the sap. Depending on the tree species the color will be different. Sounds like this is what you are seeing. All normal and nothing to worry about.
