Allamanda

Question
I have several allamanda bushes I use as a low hedge plant against my house. I have a section that the leaves are turning yellow and of course falling off. This area is right where my spinkler system has a spinkler head. My guess is this area is getting too much water.  The allamanda that is further away from the head doesn't seem as bad as this 2 foot section right on top of the sprinkler head.  Is this my problem? And if so, other than cut that sprinkler off how do I correct it, or should I just put something else there. Right now I am only water once a week due to a watering ban in Central Florida, zone 9. Normally the sprinklers are set to come on twice a week, approximately 30 minutes each time.  The allamanda is about 3 yrs old.

Answer
Connie,

It sounds like you may have a drainage problem as well as receiving too much water from the sprinkler head.

The two options that you mentioned- putting in another shrub or eliminating the head, are the only two options that you have. Moving the sprinkler head away from the plant would help to correct the problem and maintain the single hedge that you have estblished.

Good luck.
