Adjusting sprinkler heads

Question
A number of things. I have a sprinkler that will not pop up any longer. It does not appear to be stuck or binding when taken apart. A 2nd head fails to move and gets stuck in one position and there is a click click click sound. It can be moved manually. Any ideas of the problems? These are the super 800 3/4" rotors. Also how do you adjust the limits of travel of the head? Thank you very much.

Answer
Hey Bill, I hope this helps. Most the time when a head stops turning on its own, it has been stripped out, and it's time to replace it. As far as the head not popping up, it could be a restriction in the pipe or fitting delivering water to the head. If the water flow to the head seems okay, then sometimes the seals in the head go bad, or the shaft goes bad, and it won't pop up, and again its time to replace the head. Most the time when rotor heads start to fail, they can't be repaired, and just bite the bullet and save yourself the agravation, and just buy new heads. As far as adjustments go, the left stop on the head is fixed. In other words, when you turn the turret on the top of the head, first turn it to the right until it stops, and then turn it to the left until it stops. When the turret is all the way to the left, you will want to turn the whole body of the head, until the left stop is throwing to your left most position. Again the left position is fixed, and the only way to adjust it, is to move the whole head.  Now to make the head throw further or less to the right, stick a screwdriver into the arc adjustment slot, and turn it either to the + sign to make the arc increase, or the - sign to make the arc decrease. Let me know if I can be of anymore help. Thanks and have a great day.
