new tree questions

Question
How far apart should Red keaf , A.K.A. Fire leaf maples , be planted apart and away from house foundation, I plan on shading the west side of my house. The trees are 2 inch dia. aprox 8 feet tall, zone , 8 also will they thrive in black clay soil ? I call it cotton land soil

Answer
Ricky,

I would recommend planting them no closer than 15 to 20 feet to the house. This will give the trees ample room to spread out and minimize the impact on the house.

Maples are adaptive to just about any soil condition. Just remember to keep up with the watering and after care.

Good luck,
Ed Gulliksen
