Receding Soil

Question
My house was built with a slope all around the house I guess for better drainage. The house is now 13 yrs old. Every year the soil receded more and more and now there are some spot where i can see undeneath the concrete of the house. what I can I do to add soil without killing the grass?

Answer
Hi Joe, You didn't say what kind of grass you have.  If you need to add several inches of soil, I'd rent a sod cutter, remove the sod, add and pack the soil and replace the sod.  If your grass is a type easily grown from seed, like fescue, I'd just add the soil on top, pack it and then plant more seed.
You'll need to pack the soil or first rain it all goes to your neighbors.  Most grass would not survive a couple of inches of soil packed on top.  Jim
