boxwood shubs incident

Question
Yesterday, 4/2/07, an employee of ours was instructed to "trim"  the boxwoods in front of our shop in Nashville,Tn.  He took it upon himself to cut them back about a foot.  There is absolutely  no foliage left on them and the front of our business looks bare.  My question to you is,  will they grow back this season, or will we have to wait till next year? ARGH!

Answer
Jennifer,

We normally call this type of pruning a rejuvenation pruning, and it will take several seasons for the plants to recover fully.

I would recommend fertilizing this spring and again in the fall with a balanced fertilizer. This should help to speed up recovery.

Good luck,
Ed Gulliksen
