bay tree

Question
I have a bay tree outside the fromt of the house. It seems to have caterpillar type insects cocooning themselves in the leaves. Is this an infestation or are they ok to be left without treating?.

Answer
Sarah,

It sounds like you have leaf rollers. These caterpillars usually do not do too much damage. If they are cocooning, then their damaging faze is over. I would recommend treating the trees early next spring to control the next generation.

Good luck,
