plant now?

Question
A friend wants to put in roses to complete a memorial garden for his wife. It's Central Texas with temps normally in the mid-90s to lower 80s at night, though it's been a little cooler this summer. Can he plant now and have a good survival rate? If not, when's the soonest? (The soil is clay with some sand we added.)
The nurseries here don't have many roses now. Any good sources?

Answer
You can plant roses now although it isn't the ideal time. Just make sure that the bushes are well mulched with about 6 inches of wood chips, compost or anything else you can use as a mulch. This will keep the rose roots cool which will make them healthier. Also keep watering. A bucket of water per day when the temperature is high will really help them survive. Hope this helps. Lynnette
