ladybanks roses pruning to promote lower growth

Question
My lady banks blooms profusely but the plant comes up from behind a hedge to a trellis on the front of the garage. For about 3' from the top of the hedge to the foliage it is only stem with no leaves can I prune it back to promote growth at the bottom.

Answer
It depends how many basal canes you have at the base of your Lady Banks. You usually have many. But if you have more than 5 main ones, then I would cut the rest down to about 12 inches. This will make them bush out. However this rose will need sunlight to encourage the pruned canes to bush out. Also add some fertilizer.
