pruning cl pinata roses

Question
I live in zone 8 and am wondering if I need to prune my cl Pinata rose back to a "nub" this winter?

Answer
Never prune any rose lower than 18 inches as it takes up too much of their energy to grow back. Climbers especially hate to be cut back as they can become a bush rose instead of a climber. Pinata will do fine in zone 8  even though it is a tender rose but if you mulch all around the base with anything you have in your area, to about 8 inches deep, then it will do fine over the winter. Pinata does better in some shade with no hot afternoon sun. The colours don't bleach out as much as they do in full sun.
