Growing roses

Question
I live in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada which is just east of Toronto on the north shore of Lake Ontario. I live in a ground floor apartment with a backyard facing north. I would like to plant some roses but because of limited full sun, I'm not sure which variety would be best. Would love some suggestions. Thank you.

Answer
Rugosas will grow well without  lot of sun but there is another group which would be worth trying and those are the Hybrid Musks. They don't have the shape of hybrid teas but have many double and very attractive coloured flowers. They are also quite hardy. Pickering Nurseries in Ontario, has a good selection of them. Buff Beauty, Felicia, Lavender Lassie and Skyrocket are some of the best ones. Plant them 8 inches deep to make sure if you do get very nasty cold winter that they will survive.
