Color of Roses

Question
My wife planted one each of yellow, white and red rose bushes in our yard. For the first few years we enjoyed the different colors. Now, for the past 2 years, all three bushes have produced red roses. What happened?

Answer
Most roses are budded onto very vigorous rose called an under stock to make it grow stronger .Your roses have died and the under stock, called Dr. Huey, a red climber, has taken over. What usually happens is that the top rose dies in the winter or just because it isn't very vigorous. Then the under stock takes over because it is very vigorous. It mainly happens to roses that are not hardy enough to go through a cold winter or have had a problem and so were weaken and died but the under stock stayed healthy and grew.
