Red,shriveled,new growth,Knock-out Rose?

Question
Is there a disease called "rosa" something. That refers to the new growth mainly red and shriveled. Last year nearly destroyed all Knockout roses at one location. What is it and what can be done quickly to keep from spreading to other bushes?

Answer
Oh dear, I afraid your rose does have Rose Rosette disease. The only solution is to put it in the garbage or burn the whole bush as that will also kill the mites which cause it.The mites travel on the wind in the air and when they land on a rose they cause a virus type infection in the sap. I would also keep an sharp eye on the rose bushes nearby, as the mites may have travelled onto them too. There is no known cure for this disease. The multiflora rose is the host so if you have those near by you,  that is where they will be coming from.
Here is some more information for you about Rose Rosette.
