wild roses

Question
I have this invasive rose all over my property. I have been successful digging up if I get the entire root. I have tried Roundup, and several other poisons. Nothing I have tried has even wilted the leaves. I have tried spraying regularly to no effect.
Do you have any advice?

Answer
I am assuming that the rose is a wild species. A wild rose can easily grow back from just one inch of stem. They can also grow down deep into the soil such as 4 feet deep. To apply a herbicide, you have to check and see what strength it is as RoundUp comes in many strengths, the weakest being for grasses the strongest used for shrubs. I would use the shrub strength on your roses. The ideal time to get rid of wild roses is when they are in their strongest growing period as that is when  a herbicide works best. Select a sunny day when the temperature is between 60" and 80' with no wind. Spray the herbicide onto and around the base of the rose or single rose stem type of plant. Then spray your way up to the top. Keep spraying until the liquid drips off the bush and the leaves. It may take until two weeks before you see the plant wilt. Repeat if necessary.
The other procedure is to keep mowing down the rose plants as they appear and then use a herbicide on them. Mowing them down has been proven to get rid of the roses but it takes a few years.
