Blooms wilting prematurely

Question
Hi Jay,

I am new to the world of roses and eager to learn so I can expand my garden. I live in Altadena CA and recently purchased a yellow Michelangelo rose. I potted it in a larger pot that has proper drainage. It gets mid day direct sun and though we have had some overcast days I have not noticed any mold. The problem is that the buds are starting to wilt the moment they open, the entire plant is starting to look a little droopy. I waited two weeks to fertilizer with liquid miracle grow and am watering it well every other day. My only guess is that I am over watering? Should I cut the wilted blooms, or will they perk up? I would appreciate any help, I'm not allowing myself to purchase any other plants unless I can successfully care for this rose bush ;) Thanks in advance

Answer
Hi Ashley,

It sounds like too much water.  Does the pot have a hole to drain?   If it does not, you may want to put one in the pot or replant it in one that does drain.

What kind of soil do you have in the pot?  That also determines how well it drains.

Over watering blooms usually do not perk back up.  Let the plant dry out completely and then water every 3-4 days depending on the soil moisture,

Hope that helps.

Jay
