Begonia

Question
I recently bought a hanging basket of begonia's from Lowes ,, and i didnt think about it until my Mom and my Aunt had a discussion about it.,,, So maybe you can settle a bet between them. My Aunt says the Begonia is an Annual and I say its a Perrenial. The color is pink and white and its pretty large. I threw the sticker away otherwise i would call Lowes and ask them. Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Rich,
Thanx for your question.  A begonia is a perennial plant in it's native land.  I'm not sure if that's Mexico or South America.  But it's definitely from a tropical area.  We use them as annuals in the United States and Western Europe.  You can sometimes overwinter begonias indoors and take them out again in the spring and summer.  Some begonias have large tubers that can be stored over the winter.
I hope this helps.
Tom
