Perennial Morning Glory

Question
Hi there. I bought my house last summer (late August) and I believe i have a perennial morning glory in my backyard. It was there last summer with these bluish/purple flowers. My question is, will this come back this year or do I have to replant? If its a perennial (i simply cannot see this thing coming from a 'seed' like the annual version), when should i expect to see something growing? It was quite the vine and the stumps are still sticking out of the flower boxes at the base. It climbed a big trellis i have. Thanks for any help.

Answer
Hi Kymberlee,
Unless you live in Mexico, this does
not sound like a morning glory to me.  You must live along the Gulf Coast or in Southern California because this sounds like a tropical plant.  Perennial morning glories (they're all perennial south of the border) do not survive in America's climate except in the continental deep south.

A true perennial does not have to be dug up and replanted unless it is a tender perennial which requires root protection in a cool, dry basement until the following Spring.

Please describe the county and state and here are some more questions:

how long does the vine get
what do the leaves look like
what do the flowers look like
when does it start bloooming
when does it start blooming
have you notice any particular pests on it

Let me know what you think.
Tom
