Trimming lavendar?

Question
I have a rather large lavendar plant in one of my beds. It bloomed nicely, and now the flowers are dried. Is it safe now to trim the plant back, and if so, how far? Also, is it possible to move a small portion of the plant to another location? How would I go about doing that? Sorry for all the questions. I'm new to gardening!

Answer
Hi Robin,
Please don't apologize for asking questions!  That's what we're here for and we love giving advice!  I don't know where you live but unless you are in subtropical USA (Florida, Gulf Coast, Southern Arizona, California) i would cut the lavender plant back to about 2 inches above the soil once blooming has ceased.  You can dig up large lavender plants and separate the root ball into clumps which will increase your lavender plants. I hope this helps.

Tom
