lillie pods

Question
I have multiple different kinds of lillies.  The ones I am referring to are a dark red.  they have produced seed pods and I would like to harvets them.  when should I cut them and harvest from pod?

Answer
Hi Kari,
Thanx for your question.  The pod should be dry and brown and starting to shrivel.  If you're talking about lotuses, they have a round shape like half an orange and you can see the large black seeds.  Clip the entire seed pod taking care not to spill the seeds in the pond.  Water lilies are different.  You should check every day and when the pod looks like it is going to open, cut it off and empty it indoors on a metal or ceramic plate.  Plant the seeds immediately.  I don't think they keep long under dry conditions.  I hope this helps.
Tom
