Question
when is the best time to divide creeping phlox? My patch is very dense and I wish to divide and give some to a friend. Same thing for my fiddle leaf ferns. I live in Minnesota which is zone 4.

 I would wait until after the creeping phlox has bloomed then trim it back and divide.
  The fiddle leaf ferns should be divided and transplanted in the spring just when they are beginning to grow.  I have also seen them divided as they die back in the fall.  They are pretty resilient.
