cacti and succulents

Question
hello. i live in california where the temperature can reach 100 degrees often and am wondering how often i should water my many cacti and succulents. They are all outside on my patio and yard. They get partial sun, but alot of shade. Also, should i be using any plant food for them? I am determined to not overwater, but am so tempted as they always look dry! I appreciate any info you can give me. Thanks!

Answer
Dear Shawn,

I apologize for the delay in responding. I am having trouble retrieving my questions. Yes you can water them. I live in Phoenix where it is over 100 degrees the majority of the year. I water monthly, but my cacti get almost no shade at all. I use an oscillating sprinkler and let it run for about an hour in each location. Cacti have roots that stay close to the surface so they can collect moisture quickly when it rains. Since yours get a lot of shade, then every 5 to 6 weeks should be sufficient. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Greg
