Ixora Maui

Question
I live in Zone 8 and I recently acquired an Ixora Maui. I placed it in direct sun and it looked great for about the first three weeks. Then I noticed that the tender leaves on the tips seemed a bit scorched, so I moved the plant (still in original container) to a more protected location where it gets morning sun. It's been in the new location for three days. Today I noticed that all the lower leaves are dry, brittle, and dropping off. Please help me before I kill it! Thanks.

Answer
Hi Sherry,
Thanx for your question.  The plant doesn't like a lot of direct sunshine.  A little morning sun is fine and then bright shade after that.  Moist soil that doesn't get soggy but doesn't dry out either.  And soil that is acidic.  You can use Miracid or other acidic soil amendments to lower the pH of your soil.  I hope this helps.
Tom
