ixora maui red

Question
I live in texas city, texas. my ixora maui red  plants looks very brown now that temp. got down to 24 degrees. Do i remove all the brown which would be all the plant that is showing. i got this plant because it said the hardiness was 20 degrees f.

Answer
Greetings Jeanie!

Your ixora maui red is probably showing its unhappiness at the change of temperatures. The Maui series is more tender than most. And yes, it is supposed to be able to handle temps down to 20 degrees. But was it windy? 24 degree air can definitely be chilled further by the wind.

But there is a fair chance that your plant has survived. What抯 going on under the surface? I would suggest that you gently remove the burned sections, continue to care for it, but don抰 overwater, and cross your fingers.

If I can be of any more help, or if this is in any way unclear, please write again.
