Honeysuckle Vine Questions

Question
I have 2 areas covered with Honeysuckle Vines that I had started from 4 inch plants.  They obviously love the areas, and have massively grown in the past 3-4 years.  They flower profusely, and are absolutely beautiful. I purchased from a mail order nursery (Lonicera sempervirens)  I have 2 questions I hope you can help me with:  1) Both have quite a few yellow leaves with black spots, but the flowers are on the same vine and are beautiful.  I have been pulling the yellow leaves off of the vines, but there are quite a few. Is there something I can do to prevent this, as well as.. should I be doing this to these leaves?  2) It is now early July, and there are hundreds of flowers that have turned from the orange/red/yellow color to a dull rose pink...some are drying up, and some are just plain strange looking.  These are the spent blossoms, and am I supposed to be cutting these off?  I do see some buds and new flowers starting to bloom again.  In the past it has bloomed continuously thru fall. Even though the plants are covered with green leaves, the flowers are a bit unsightly and dull. If I am to leave the spent flowers, I will. I just can't find anything anywhere mentioning it.

Thank you.  Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Kathy,
Thanx for your question.  Your plants may have Cercospora leafspot.  Here is a link to some pics.  Let me know if this is it.

July siginifies the end of blooming for Lonicera sempervivum and the plant will produce decorative berries that attract songbirds.  I wouldn't pull the flowers off.  Let the berries develope and enjoy the birds.  If you want to remove the spent flowers, you may do so.

I hope this helps.
Tom
