Sweet Broom Cytisus spachianus

Question
I purchased one that was not in very good condition.  Very dried out.  The sold it to me for half price.  Do I need to cut it back and let it come back.

Answer
Hi Brenda,
Thanx for your quesstion.  The first thing I do is, soak it in water overnight with some diluted 12-12-12 fertilizer in it or some compost tea (make this by putting a scoop of well-composted manure in a bucket of water for a couple days.).  Then cut the shrub back, especially all the obviously dead stuff.  Take care in cutting too much of it away unless it is a really large plant.  Dig a hole deeper and wider than the pot or rootball.  Fill the hole with water and let it drain.  Put some well-composted manure at the bottom of the hole and then plant the shrub.  Cover with soil and soak with water.  Water once a week if no regular rain.  I hope this helps.
Tom
