hypericum tricolor

Question
I have many hypericum tricolor growing on a banking in my garden. Unfortunately after the really cold spell they are now all brown and look dead, with marginal shoots and growth back. How would I care for these please? Do I prune them now (April) or leave them and hope for the best???? Yours appreciatively

Answer
Hello Steve

Have a good look at the stems of your plants to see if there any buds forming lower down.  If there are, wait another 2-3 weeks and then prune back each stem to a nice plump bud - in a case like this its always a good idea to 'wait and see' before pruning, because plants are often tougher that we think patience usually pays off!
