Identifying a plant

Question
What is it?
What is it?
QUESTION: Hello Tom,  I'm attaching pictures.  The plant is about 8 ft tall and growing.  Large fuzzy stem and two leaf stems coming out one on top of the other.  The bottom leaf is a single 5 pointed and the top is multiple 3 pointed leaves.  No flowers to date.  Any idea as to what is is?  Thanks a mil Tom.  Bernadette

ANSWER: Hi Bernadette,
Thanx for your question and the pic.  Can you send some more pix please?  It's bit difficult to really identify this plant as there are mostly stems showing.  Sorry.  Let me know.
thx,
Tom

QUESTION: Hi Tom,  Yes I am sending another picture of the top branch with multiple 3 point leaves. The bottom branch only has one large 5 point leaf and it is directly below the other shown in the picture.  Thanks again. Bernadette

ANSWER: Hi Bernadette,
Thanx for the additional pic.  It looks like a weed that is very common around where I live.  I think it grows all over the Midwest and wouldn't doubt that it grows in Canada in the prairies and maybe even farther east.  What part of Canada are you in?  I don't know the name of the weed.  I'm still looking for it but you should be able to see more of them close by if it is in fact a weed.  Did this thing just come up this year or have you seen it before.  If it is the weed I'm thinking of, it will get very tall and it won't bloom anything significantly.  It also resembles certain types of hardy hibiscus including the wild types.  Can you get another picture of it standing back a little farther so I can see the whole plant?
thx,
Tom

QUESTION: Hi Tom,  I live in(south west Ontario)in Windsor which is directly across Detroit, MI.  I just moved in to this area so I don't know if the plant has come up before but I have been on the lookout for the same and haven't seen it. I dug up older overgrown perennials in same spot and then this plant came up.  I've nurtured weeds before so it wouldn't surprise me that I'm doing it again! lol  Thanks again Tom.  Till then, Bernadette

Answer
Hi Bernadette,
Sorry it has taken so long but I have been looking for the name of this plant which I believe to be a weed.  It is very common in the praires.  Here is a link to a picture.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ambrosia_trifida_full_shot.jpg

It's called Ambrosia trifida or Buffalo Weed, Great Ragweed, Giant Ragweed, Bitterweed, Bloodweed, Horse Cane, Tall Ambrosia.

Let me know if you agree.

I hope this helps.
Tom
