What is it?

Question
QUESTION: I have a plant that hs green spears that grow (similar to Gladiolas) and a long stem (2 feet) that grows into a large round bunch of bell-like flowers. They were blue last year but they came back after dying off this year with a white ones as well. IT appears to be getting pot bound. I wonder if it has bulbs that I should dig up and split into multiple pots.

ANSWER: Hi Steve,
Thanx for your question.  This is a potted plant you received?  How long did the plant bloom?  When did it bloom?  What happened after it bloomed?  Did the foliage wither and die back?  What makes you think it is getting potbound?  Is there any way I can see a picture of it.  I can answer your question better if you'll answer my questions.
thx,
Tom

Answer
Hi Steve,
Thanx for the question and a million thanx for the picture.  The plant is called an agapanthus.  It is hardy to zone 7.  After it finishes blooming you can unpot it and separate the rhizomes.  If you don't get frost in your area, you can plant it in the ground.  The link I'm providing you, gives good information on the agapanthus, also called African lily and directions on how to separate it.  It does not grow from a bulb but from fleshy rhizomes, somewhat similar to iris but not as thick and hard.  I hope this helps.
Tom
