planting of palaenopsis orchid

Question
I have use to plant the palaenopsis orchids using synthetic form board coated with cement and in middle placing the coconut husk attaching the plant. This is the practice here. This board can be hanged nicely on the wall. It works very well. But i want give the best to my plants. We can find charcoal and coconut husk easily. What is your best advise. Shall i use pot to plant palaenopsis. If then it a clay port or a plastic.

Answer
I recommend that you use plastic pots for your phalaenopsis.  Charcoal and coconut husk shoud be fine providing that you ensure that the salts are thoroughly flushed from the coconut husk before use.  A triple soak in rain water over three days should help in most instances.  Either the long fibre or coconut chips should be fine.  You may want to place the plastic pot inside of a clay pot to help keep the roots cooler and for stability.
