Planting air roots of an orchid

Question
My aunt in CA has an orange orchid (I am from Iowa).  This plant has bright orange small flowers, that reminds me of a hyacinth spike.  The plant is producing new stalks with air roots. I cut a couple off and want to start my own plant.  The air roots are 6-8" long and have green tips.  How do I plant these?

Answer
Hello Joy,

I'm afraid I have to disappoint you as orchids are not propogated by root cuttings.  Orchids are grown from seeds and depending upon what kind of orchid it is, it can take upwards of 7 years from seed germination to seeing the orchid plant in bloom.
