orchid with spreading roots

Question
my orchid seemed to finish in all but one section. That section still has green
leaves and is sprouting a new branch with  a bud and a tiny leaf. At the bottom
are about 8 long and spreading roots out of the moss and above the pot. Am I
supposed to bury these or leave them alone?

Thanks

Answer
Hello Phyllis,

Without knowing what kind of orchid you have, it is difficult for me to tell you what to do.  With that said, if the spreading roots are still short enough, you can try to gently direct them into the moss and into the pot.  Many orchid roots when growing outside the pot are rather stiff and difficult to bend, so go easy with them unless you find they are pliable enough to bend without causing damage.  If you cannot bend them, leave them alone but lightly mist them each morning to help maintain healthy roots.

Hope this helped.
