Dan, the late Rebecca Tyson Northen has a book entitled "Home Orchid Growing".  Her first edition was published in 1950 and was updated every 10 years until her death.  This is considered to be a classic in the field.  Publisher is Prentiss Hall. You may also want to subscribe to the American Orchid Society which has an informative web site and publishes a monthly journal titled "Orchids".  While AOS membership is a bit pricey ($65/yr) it is well worth it.  Go to the AOS website for more information.
