Record number of flowers

Question
Hi,

I have an orchid that has one central spike and 6 further spikes feeding off of this main spike. In total, the orchid has 41 buds with 7 already in flower. Is this a record?

Answer
David, in general, the record for a multiflora phalaenopsis is hundreds of buds and flowers.  However, these plants are judged and recorded by named hybrid.  If your hybrid phal has a name, and it is registered by the Royal Horticultural Society, I can can look up the name and tell you exactly what the record is for that named hybrid. Two reasons that I prefer to purchase orchids that are named and registered hybrids is that I can look up the parentage and check for any awards.

However, not to be discouraged.  You should be pleased that your plant is doing so well and, when the buds open, you should have a wonderful specimen.  When it comes to orchid records, most often, it is difficult to surpass the records already established.  Locate an orchid society in your area and they will likely sponsor an orchid show near you.  If your plant is still in bloom when the show is held, you could have it put on display and judged. Likely it will receive at least a ribbon.
