Transfering plants from indoor to outdoors

Question
I was wondering if moving plants from indoors to outdoors, during summer, and then moving them back in the winter is better for them than just leaving them indoor all the time.. For example, I have friends that have a jasmine plant indoors, in a pot. During the summer they leave the pot outside and then bring it back in during winter. Does this moving in and out affect the plant? Do plants need a stable environment? What about banana plants? Can they go in and out as well?
I leave in Southest Michigan.

Answer
Dear Habdu,

I beleive in putting plants outdoors for the summer and most of mine are. They benefit from the wind, the rain, and the incresed sun. In the summer the sun is higher in the sky so you do not get as much sun in south facing windows as you do in the winter months. Therefore, sun loving plants love going outdoors including your banana plant. You are probably just a bit north of me. I am just north of Fort Wayne, IN.
The only caution is some plants get sunburned when you first move them out in direct sun so you may want to move first to a shady location then slowly out to a sunnier location so leaves have an acclimation period. More questions, just ask. Good luck.
